The collection „modi funis – I AM THE PRINTER“ describes the vitalization of textile craftsmanship with the help of digital aesthetics and digital production techniques.
Digital media and tools determine our everyday lives and are an integral part of our communication. The urge to drive people and their processes to perfection leads to a cold distancing from ourselves. The question arises as to whether the
re is a risk of cultural loss if processes and techniques in the design and manufacturing process of fashion are increasingly digitized.

What does the future of textile craftsmanship look like in the digital era?

People‘s fascination with digitality has been evident since the invention of the internet. Can this fascination be used to vitalize handcraftsmanship and demonstrate the diversity and creative power of this cultural practice?  The work explores the power of aesthetics by using digital aesthetics and integrates digital technological manufacturing processes as well as imitating them. The main inspiration is the additive printing process, 3D printing. This creates a three-dimensional object that is printed layer by layer.

modi funis breaks up the traditional textile surface and reshapes surface and form. This new technique can be described as a hybrid between “form weaving”, embroidery and lacemaking. Cords follow the course of the thread and the three-dimensional shape and flow over traditional seams into overlapping contiguous surfaces. The form is created by lining up and selectively filling these areas. To underline the potential of the technique and the relevance of craftsmanship, the textile is sculpturally staged around the body with the help of couture forms.

The body is partly molded and partly exaggerated. This cross-border fusion of craftsmanship, fashion and digital technology creates a collection that honors the cultural significance of textile creation and at the same time significantly demonstrates the power of fashion.
